Your BMI does not directly measure body fat but correlates with the statistical amount of body fat in most people. However, your BMI will give you an indication of the potential health risks associated with being overweight or obese.

Measurements such as skinfold thickness, waist circumference, waist-to-hip circumference ratios, ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are additional methods to estimate body fat.
